August Horch is the main name behind the Audi brand, after the failure of his previous business, A. Horch & Cie. August Horch established Horch Automobil-Werke GmbH, this company can be found in many books as dating as far back as 1909. The first ever Audi vehicle was produced in 1910 under the name of Audi Type A 10/22 hp Sport Phaeton.

 

The Audi name is based on August’s surname, Horch  which means listen in German but when translated into Latin it translates to Audi. The four rings that can be seen on the car represents the car companies that have all banded together.
